In addition to proposing a comprehensive peace plan to halt Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has a novel notion of resolving global problems: letting dogs rule the world.

Speaking to Reuters via video connection on Wednesday, Zelenskiy hinted that a man’s best friend could do better when getting along on the international scene during the rare respite he receives as a military commander.

“There are moments when I gaze at all these conflicts or crises, particularly in the Middle East. It affects not just Ukraine but all of Africa and the Middle East.

In response to a question on what still makes him chuckle, he remarked, “Sometimes I’m looking at this and think that the best way is if this planet will be the planet of dogs,” during the Reuters Next conference in New York.

The Kremlin’s conflict in Ukraine, which is now in its 21st month, has disrupted the security system in Europe and had an impact on Asia and Africa, where Russia’s de facto blockade of the Black Sea has led to food shortages.

While they have given vital military and financial backing, Kyiv’s Western allies are now handling the Gaza fight as well.

In a counteroffensive to retake Russian-occupied territory, Ukrainian soldiers have been battling for months along the front lines, but their progress has only been marginal.

Zelenskiy, pushing a ten-point peace plan, claimed that his dogs are “always funny” and offer much-needed comfort when he spends time with his wife and kids. Zelenskiy grinned and said, “Honestly, there are times when I don’t understand people.”
