The Houthi militia of Yemen, which receives support from Iran, claimed responsibility for a missile strike on a cargo ship in the Red Sea on Tuesday. Additionally, the Houthi militia claimed responsibility for an attempt to attack Israel using drones.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping disclosed that none of its crew members had injuries from the incident on their United VIII vessel sailing from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan. According to the report, the ship informed a nearby coalition navy warship that it had been under attack and had engaged in evasive maneuvers in response.

Separately, Israel announced that its aircraft had successfully intercepted an enemy aerial target in the region surrounding the Red Sea.

In a speech that was broadcast on television, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea stated that the group had attacked the vessel, which he named the MSC United since the crew did not respond to the warnings that were given to them.

In addition to this, he stated that the Houthis had carried out a military campaign that targeted Eilat as well as other regions in Israel, which he referred to as occupied Palestine. There was no mention of whether or not he successfully struck any of the targets.

U.S. Central Command said that the Houthis were responsible for the destruction of 12 drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two cruise missiles in the Red Sea. Additionally, the Houthis were responsible for the destruction of U.S. fighter planes and a naval destroyer. A statement on the social media site X stated that there was no ship damage or reported casualties.

To show their support for Palestinians in Gaza, the Houthis, who control a significant portion of Yemen, including the capital, have been attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea since October. They claim that these vessels have connections to Israel or are going to Israel.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Authority earlier reported that there were two explosions in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. The explosions involved missiles and drones that were near a vessel. It also said that there were no injuries that were reported.

Following the United States declaration of a global marine security strategy in the Red Sea in response to assaults on vessels carried out by Yemen’s Houthis, the events that have been recorded have occurred one week following the announcement.

In reaction to the attacks, several shipping companies have ceased operations through the waterway that runs through the Red Sea. Instead, they have chosen to travel a more lengthy route across Africa.

The Houthis have pledged that they will continue their assaults until Israel puts an end to the fighting in Gaza. They have also threatened to strike vessels belonging to the United States of America if the militia group itself is targeted.
