Unnamed Officials: Trump Revealed Classified information to Russia

After a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister and Russian Ambassador last week, two unnamed government officials (one former and one current) say that President Trump revealed classified information about an Islamic State plot from a very trusted ally.

The relationship with this trusted ally is now in jeopardy. They have made it clear throughout their partnership with the United States that they want the information shared to remain secret. So secret, that many government officials were unaware of the information that was being shared.

With Russia now knowing about this highly classified information, questions have again been raised about not only his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also his ability to govern the nation in a way which is best for the American people. With this outbreak, he has been labeled a hypocrite since he attacked Hillary Clinton and her handling of possible classified information on her private e-mail server. Also, sharing the information with Russian officials makes people continue to question the extent of his relationship with the Russians after it was revealed that the Russian election hacking attacked the Democratic and possibly aided the Trumps campaign.

Since the information leak, the government has been scrambling to set the record straight. To begin with, it was not known the extent of this information’s classification until after the meeting with the Russian ministers had concluded when it was discussed during a National Security Council Meeting.

In addition to not understanding the extent of the classification, high-ranking foreign policy government officials who attended the meeting agree that the information ‘revealed’ was not as detrimental as the media has portrayed. Both Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson agree that there was no discussion on the sources nor methods of intelligence gathering, and all that was talked about were the contents of the intelligence, as well as military intelligence and military operations that were already known to the public.

Still, many are skeptical of their testimonies. Even though Tillerson has stated that the location of the city for the plot is not as crucial as many believe, some argue that Russia will still be able to discover the sources and methods the United States has used.

Even though the two sides are both in Syria, they are on opposite ends of the conflict that have been plaguing the region since the Arab Spring in 2011. The United States has been aiding rebels who are opposing Assad and ISIS, whereas Russia has backed Assad.

After this incident, Trump is beginning to lose the trust of the members of his party in Congress, with all people calling for an explanation as to what occurred during the meeting.
