Ukraine seizes initiative from Russia in the Black Sea – Zelenskiy.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Thursday that Ukraine had taken the initiative away from Russia in the Black Sea and has forced Russia’s naval fleet and warships to pull back as a result of Kyiv using Navel drones.
Zelenskiy stated on the Telegram messaging app, “For the first time in the history of the world, it was in the Black Sea that a fleet of naval drones began to operate. The Ukrainian government is in charge of managing this fleet.
“We managed to seize the initiative from Russia in the Black Sea,” remarked the president.
Zelenskiy stated that Moscow had blocked the Ukrainian Black Sea ports and destroyed port and grain export infrastructure during the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, upsetting global food markets.
However, Zelenskiy claimed that Ukraine had managed to tip the scales of power in its favor throughout the conflict, and he expressed gratitude to Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova, all of which are located near the Black Sea, for their assistance.
During a conference of officials from the countries that border the Black Sea, Zelenskiy made the following statement: “We were able to show that cooperation between the countries of the Black Sea region, with the support of partners, can return stability to the world food market.”
“We were able to offer such security to the western half of the Black Sea, which now makes it possible for our marine export lanes to function. The region around the Danube is also gaining new significance; it is also essential for the safety of the entire world.
In August, Kyiv established an alternative corridor after Moscow pulled out of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which the United Nations mediated. This initiative ensured the safe transit of grains out of Ukraine, which is a leading exporter and grower of grains on a worldwide scale.
According to Zelenskiy, Ukraine has successfully exported 4 million metric tons of goods thanks to the newly constructed corridor.
Russia has ramped up its use of drones and missiles in its strikes on Ukrainian sea ports and grain facilities, but Ukraine has retaliated by launching sea-based drone attacks against Russian vessels.
