UK foreign minister Cameron: Red Sea attacks must stop. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated on Thursday that attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea maritime corridors must end, or else international action will be taken.

The recent strikes carried out by Iran-backed Houthi groups in Yemen have drawn criticism from around the world. Britain, the United States, and others released a united statement on Wednesday, threatening to retaliate against more attacks.

Since October, Houthis have assaulted commercial ships in the Red Sea. The Houthis control a large portion of Yemen, including the capital. They claim that the ships are traveling to or have connections to Israel and are supporting the Palestinians in Gaza.

This is not permitted. Israel and Gaza have nothing to do with it. The freedom of navigation is at issue here. During a visit to Kosovo, he told reporters, “This is about the ability of ships to carry their cargo.”

“If ships continue to be attacked in this unlawful and intolerable manner, it will have a negative impact on the global economy and all economies. And if these attacks continue, something will be done.”

Cameron refused to say when asked what steps Britain would take or if it would send more Navy ships to the area. The defense secretary, Grant Shapps, has declared that Britain is prepared to take “direct action.”.
