Approximately 90 percent of the people that Russia had when the fight began have been lost as a result of the conflict in Ukraine, according to a source familiar with the intelligence analysis that the United States declassified. The study estimated that the war in Ukraine had cost Russia 315,000 dead and injured troops.

According to the source, the assessment also concluded that Russia’s military modernization has been pushed back by 18 years as a result of the losses of people and armored vehicles that Moscow has suffered at the hands of the Ukrainian military.

The Russian embassy here in the United States sent A request for comment to the Russian military ministry in Moscow. A request for comment was sent to the ministry, but it was not responded to.

Authorities from Russia have stated that Western estimates of the number of Russians who have died in the conflict are grossly overstated and nearly always underestimate the number of Ukrainians who have lost, which Russian authorities claim to be significant.

When Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made a last-ditch plea for more excellent military help to U.S. senators on Capitol Hill, he was met with a doubtful reaction from key Republicans. The source spoke at the same time.

Later in the day, during a press conference, Vice President Joe Biden of the United States of America underlined his continuous support for Zelenskiy and cautioned lawmakers that they risk giving Russia a triumph.

According to the source, the previously declassified intelligence assessment from the United States of America determined that Russia started its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 with a total of 360,000 people.

According to the source, since then, there have been around 315,000 Russian service members that have been killed or injured, which is approximately 87% of the entire number of forces that Russia used to initiate the conflict.

The insider went on to say that Russia has relaxed its recruitment rules for deployment in Ukraine as a result of these casualties.

Russia has been compelled to take unusual steps to maintain its capacity to fight as a result of the magnitude of the casualties. According to the source, the evaluation stated that Russia had lowered its requirements to allow the recruitment of criminals and elderly citizens. Additionally, Russia had proclaimed a partial mobilization of 300,000 troops in the latter half of 2022.

The Russian army started the war with 3,100 tanks but lost 2,200. Additionally, they had to “backfill” that force with T62 tanks manufactured in the 1970s, which resulted in the Russian army having just 1,300 tanks on the battlefield, according to the source that cited the information.

It is a state secret that Kyiv treats its losses, and authorities have stated that releasing the amount might harm the country’s military effort. According to a New York Times article from August, there have been close to 70,000 deaths in Ukraine.

Last month, historian Yaroslav Tynchenko and volunteer Herman Shapovalenko published an article in the Ukrainian magazine Tyzhden in which they stated that Shapovalenko’s Book of Memory project had confirmed 24,500 fatalities in Ukraine, both those that occurred during the fighting and those that did not involve violence, using accessible sources.

According to them, the actual number was probably far more significant.
