U.S. Firms Sanctioned by Iran

Russia, Syria, North Korea and Iran present unprecedented challenges to America’s national security. Oppressing their citizens at home and sponsoring anti-western terrorist activities and nuclear proliferation programs abroad, these nations pose an existential, destabilizing threat to peaceful democracies in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Some Democrats have chosen to ignore this threat rather than confront it head on. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders essentially ignored nuclear weapons policy and counterterrorism issues during the Democratic Primary and what little discussion he did devote to these topics involved his plans to cut essential defense spending. On the other hand, President Obama and Secretary Clinton have refused to even admit that the nation is at war with Radical Islamic Terrorists. You cannot defeat something if you are unwilling to acknowledge its existence – ask a drug addict in denial.

Donald Trump rightfully campaigned as a hard-liner on Iranian aggression. The president has promised to negotiate a new nuclear containment treaty with Iran, secure the release of several American prisoners being held by the Iranian government, and is unwilling to engage in ceremonial pleasantries with the Ayatollah.

Trump has been discourteous to several of our allies and their foreign dignitaries already. Iran is not taking this treatment lightly, however. It recently imposed sanctions on fifteen American companies for alleged human rights violations in connection with Israel’s legal and moral conflict with Palestine.

America’s special relationship with Israel, though, is probably not the primary reason for the Iranian economic sanctions. Indeed, Iran announced these measures two days after Trump imposed sanctions on eleven companies that transferred ballistic missile enhancements to Iran in violation of international law. No new revelations on America’s alliance with Israel were revealed in this two-day time period.

The Iranian government may have a knack for threatening international peace and western civilization, but it needs to come up with better fibs.
