Trump is Dividing the Republican Party Like No Other

It would appear that the gaffe with the Khan family was the last straw on the camel’s back for not just many American citizens, but for many Republicans as well. The recent polls have shown a seismic shift in support for Trump as recent as July 27th.

According to Real Clear Politics, Hillary Clinton has a 77 percent chance of winning the general election compared to Trump’s 23 percent chance. In addition, the RCP polling average, which gathers all general election polls and averages them together, shows Clinton with a 6.8 percent lead over Donald Trump.

Roughly a week ago this RCP polling average had Donald Trump leading Hillary with a 1.1 percent lead. So what gives? How did Clinton manage to not only close the gap but sprint far ahead? Actually, a better question would be “why does Donald Trump seem to shoot himself in the foot?”

Well, some pundits are attributing this sudden drop in support to this incident, which involved Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump directing snide remarks towards a Gold Star Family. This incident has undoubtedly led Trump to have a relatively rough week, to say the least. Not only has he plunged in the general election polls, but he has also lost some support among his own party.

Meg Whitman, a former adviser to both Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, announced that she was going to endorse Hillary Clinton as a result of Trump’s lack of respect for decent values and his deviation from core Republican beliefs. Whitman wasn’t the only Republican that recently decided to dump Trump, however. A Republican member of Congress, Representative Richard Hanna, also decided that he would not be supporting Trump this upcoming election.

Since there have been a large amount of Republicans standing up to Trump, just have a peek at this running list of Republicans not endorsing him. It is quite unprecedented to see this much dissent coming from a Presidential nominee’s own party. Then again, it is quite unprecedented to have a complete narcissistic dunce be so close to becoming President of the United States.

Many people, including Republicans, have been so fed up with Donald Trump’s actions recently. There comes a time when you no longer can support a person like him, even if you both are part of the same organization. For people with any semblance of dignity and self-respect, it is hard to watch Trump blather away and denigrate immigrants and minorities on a daily basis and then be associated with his campaign.

Trump has had many opportunities to connect with the people of the United States, but he has squandered every possible chance of success. While his tactic of being a schoolyard bully worked in the primaries, they certainly aren’t working in the general election. There is absolutely no way that he can win the presidency by acting in the way that he does. His words are divisive, hateful, and offensive. No other candidate in the history of the United States has ever shown this much indecency.

Given that there are less than one hundred days left until the election, there is a small chance that the balance will shift back in the favor of Donald Trump. Unless something incriminating is found against Clinton that would bury her campaign, these polls are showing exactly what the people want. The people want someone who has at least an ounce of competency, not someone who spends hours on Twitter fighting with anybody who criticizes him for having small hands and a small brain. I wouldn’t be surprised if the lead will expand even larger in the next coming weeks. This exodus of support for Trump is, to put it short, promising for the future of this country. It shows that people still truly care about the future of this nation and don’t want to see it destroyed by a madman despite having to potentially sacrifice their careers.
