On Saturday, President Trump fired a Twitter storm about former FBI director James Comey and the FBI. The New York Times published an article about the FBI, which opened an investigation into President Trump to see if he was working for Russia after he fired Comey on May 9, 2017. Referencing this article, released on Friday, counterintelligence investigators were intent on ensuring President Trump’s actions did not threaten national security and that his firing of Comey was not an obstruction of justice. As an obstruction of justice, the act of firing Comey would have misled investigators and kept them from figuring out what the Russians did to corrupt the 2016 Presidential Election and who was involved in aiding the Russians, resulting in a national security issue.

Adversary countries like Russia gather intelligence on the US by spying on research, industries, development, leadership, and technologies. A division of the FBI conducts counterintelligence, fighting these enemy intelligence agents aiming to use newfound intelligence for their advantage against the US. Those found guilty are dealt with as criminals unless a diplomatic settlement is deemed the better solution.

President Trump’s associates caught the attention of investigators and Mr. Trump’s loyalty pledge from Comey before firing him was disturbing as well. Moreover, the President told Russian diplomats visiting the White House that firing Comey took pressure off of him regarding the Russian interference of 2016 Presidential elections. FBI officials were fully convinced that opening up an investigation into President Trump was the right course to take given the circumstances.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders badmouthed the investigation and stated President Trump is tougher on Russia than previous Presidents. She went so far as to call Comey a “disgraced bipartisan hack”. Robert S. Mueller III, heading the investigation into whether President Trump fired Comey to obstruct justice and hinder the investigation into the Trump Campaign’s ties to Russia, is keeping Trump in check and actively prosecuting associates like Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen. Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer, is dismissing the FBI’s investigation because a year and a half has passed without word from the FBI and the President has not been seriously accused of anything.

The President began his weekend on Twitter, recording a vehement stream of consciousness over four tweets. He praised himself for firing Comey and talk of “Crooked Hillary” rose again. With an impulsive President like this, Mueller’s oversight is a brilliant necessity the country couldn’t do without.
