Trump Brags of Highest TV Ratings Since 9/11: ‘It’s a Tremendous Advantage’

The terrorist attacks carried out by al-Qaeda on September 11, 2001 are considered one of the most-filmed events in history — as well as one of the deadliest instances for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the U.S.

In an interview with the Associated Press published Sunday, Trump chose to compare his television ratings to those of the horrific scene that left 3,000 people dead.

When referring to CBS’ “Face the Nation,” or as Trump likes to call it, “Deface the Nation,” he claims his appearance drew 5.2 million viewers.

“It’s the highest for “Deface the Nation” since the World Trade Center — since the World Trade Center came down,” Trump said in the interview with AP’s Julie Pace. “It’s a tremendous advantage.”

His boisterous comparison to a sensitive time in the nation could come off to many as being unsettling or inappropriate.

However, 4.6 million people watched during his appearance on the political talk show in January 2016. His following presence on “Face the Nation” during the campaign last year received even lower ratings.

According to Trump, he “seems to get very high ratings.”

“You know Chris Wallace had 9.2 million people, it’s the highest in the history of the show,” he said. “I have all the ratings for all those morning shows.”

It is evident Trump considers large numbers to be synonymous with success — even if he’s exaggerated these numbers himself. In his first book, “The Art of the Deal,” he refers to a “truthful hyperbole” as “an innocent form of exaggeration — and a very effective form of promotion.”

During the interview, Trump also used the spotlight to discuss his take on getting “treated very unfairly” by the “fake media.”

“Sometimes you’re fake, but — but the fake media is some of the media,” he said to Pace. “It bears no relationship to the truth.”
