According to a story published by a Swedish business newspaper on Monday, Tesla (TSLA.O) has initiated legal action against the Swedish government’s Transport Agency due to a workers’ strike that has prevented the American automobile manufacturer from obtaining license plates for its newly manufactured automobiles.

The largest industrial union in Sweden, IF Metall, is in a heated battle with Tesla to get a collective bargaining agreement for Tesla’s mechanics in Sweden. On October 27, Metall sent its mechanics out on strike, and they have refused to work on Tesla vehicles since then.

Since then, members of other unions, such as postal workers, dockworkers, and cleaners, have joined in on a solidarity action. This has resulted in several adverse outcomes for Tesla, like the company’s distribution of registration plates.

A request for comment was sent to Tesla, but the company did not immediately respond. Obtaining a statement from the Swedish Transport Agency was not immediately possible.

The fact that Tesla has taken legal action against Sweden about blocking license plates is evidence of the company’s commitment to maintaining regulatory compliance while managing the hurdles that naturally emerge during its operations.

The resolution of this legal case may open the door to further clarifications in the legislation governing license plates, and it may also impact how similar disagreements in the automobile sector are handled in the future.
