Statue of Liberty Celebrates its 130th Anniversary
The Statue of Liberty, which is established on the Liberty Island in Manhattan, New York, was unveiled more than a century ago in 1886. The 93 meter tall statue is the epitome of Liberty and is rightly modeled after the Roman Goddess ‘Libertas.’
As of now, this exquisite gift from the French has been standing tall for a hundred and forty years with broken chains by her feet. She has been a sign of freedom and equality for the people of America and a sight of wonder for the tourists.
Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the copper statue was built by Gustave Eiffel; the statue was built in pieces and she was slowly put together in 1885.
The statue took 21 years to make and it was hoped that it would remind the French people about the value of liberty and freedom. Especially after the abolition of slavery in 1863 through the 13th amendment, the statue was more likely an American example for the French to follow.
To commemorate the anniversary, thousands of tourists will most probably flock around the statue to experience the sheer wonder of the monument.
