Senior State Department Official Arrested for Soliciting Sex From a Minor

A Senior State Department official has been charged with trying to solicit sex from a minor.

Daniel Rosen was arrested by Fairfax County Police who stated that Rosen was arrested around 12 p.m. while he was at his home in Washington D.C. Rosen’s actions were discovered after a female police officer who works for the Child Exploitation Unit went online and posed as a minor, where she was talking with the State Official.

Rosen, who was transported to a Washington D.C. prison, is being charged with Use of a Communications Device to Solicit a Juvenile, and at this moment it is uncertain if he was able to post bail or not.

Jen Psaki, department spokesperson, released an official statement regarding the incident saying,“We are aware that a State Department employee has been arrested and charges have been issued. For issues related to Department personnel and for privacy reasons, we are not able to confirm the identity of the individual or specific charges. His security clearance will be suspended and he will be put on administrative leave while this proceeds to its end through any judicial process. We are following standard procedure in this case.”

Law enforcement officials are trying to dig up as much information as they can regarding this case, and have been looking at Rosen’s computer. They will start looking over his phone history, just after they receive a search warrant to do so. Rosen has spoken about the luring of minors into extremist activity in the past, and that is why some are a little shocked to discover that he was involved in a case like this.

Back in 2012, Rosen gave a speech at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies’ International Center for Terrorism Studies, where he stated, “It’s not about public diplomacy, it’s not about improving the U.S. image. It’s about reaching out to a pretty well-defined and pretty narrow audience, and that’s people that could be persuaded into crossing the boundaries between sympathy and action.”
