A 16 year olds mother claims that her child’s assignment told the students that Republicans wish to not help out the poor because to them it’s “a waste of money.”

The assignment asked the students of Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisconsin, to identify the appropriate quote that matched the political party.

The quote that the mother of the junior stated, “We should not help the poor, it’s a waste of money.” The mother who chooses to hide her identity to protect her son, went by the name Heather and claims her son chose option “E” as his answer because he, “didn’t know what else could be the answer.”

The answer chosen, turned out to be incorrect when the assignment was handed back. When the teacher “corrected” the student work, he was given a “D.” According to the mother, who told Fox News, “option “D” represented the voices of “Conservatives/Republicans.”

The mother told Fox News that, “I picked my son up from school on Thursday and asked him what was wrong and he brought up that quote. He asked, ‘Mom, where would you say this went on the political spectrum?’ I said, ‘Nowhere. I don’t know any political party that espouses not helping the poor,’ Once we got home, I looked at the work sheet and saw that his answer was marked wrong. The teacher had put the correct answer in the margin and marked it conservative. I was shocked and then I was very angry.”

After the mother spoke out against the claims made by the assignment, the school district issued a press release stating that students are, “required to take a political spectrum quiz, which is not a quiz in the traditional sense with right or wrong answers; instead, the quiz asks survey questions. The answers to the questions place students on the political spectrum. While the survey is completed online, no personal information is entered, including name, login, and student number.”

While they appear to be justifying the commentary made by the spectrum quiz, they have chosen to not use it in the future.
