Officials said Russia launched its second big missile salvo against Ukraine in recent days early Monday, shattering buildings and wounded at least 34 people in Pavlohrad but missing Kyiv.

At 3:45 a.m., air raid sirens blared across the capital, followed by explosions as missiles were intercepted by Ukrainian defense systems.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated 15 cruise missiles were intercepted from the Murmansk and Caspian regions.

Serhii Popko, Kyiv’s municipal administrator, said all rockets and some drones were shot down. He didn’t elaborate but claimed more would be revealed later.

The incident follows Friday’s first attack on Kyiv in nearly two months, when more than 20 cruise missiles and two explosive drones were launched.

21 people, including three children, were killed when Russian missiles hit an apartment complex in Uman, 215 kilometers (135 miles) south of Kyiv.

According to Serhii Lysak, the region’s chief official, Pavlohrad in eastern Dnipropetrovsk was hit by missiles on Monday, hurting 34 people, including five children.
