Rudy Giuliani Pushes for Loretta Lynch Confirmation

With all of the uncertainty in Washington today, one of the biggest questions remaining is whether or not the new Republican led senate will confirm President Obama’s nominee Loretta Lynch to serve as Attorney General of The United States. One of the reasons why Republicans do not want Loretta Lynch to serve as Attorney General is because of her history of staunch opposition to gun rights. She was given an F rating by The National Rifle Association.

However, she has found herself gaining the support of one Republican, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Former New York Mayor and one-time Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani joined other law enforcement leaders in pushing for a vote in favor of her nomination for attorney general.

Lynch was a 2-time district attorney from New York. What is most concerning is the fact that Lynch is waiting longer to just get a vote in The US Senate than all five previous nominees for Attorney General. Lynch was quite effective at her job as District Attorney, however many on the right see her views as “radical.” Giuliani’s argument seems to be that despite her views, there is a great need to have an Attorney General.

Giuliani worked with Lynch when he was mayor and called her an excellent lawyer with “very substantial expertise in national security,” who made decisions on merit, was not a political operative in any sense and deserved to be confirmed. Giuliani seems to be injecting personal feelings into this debate. That being said, it is still rare to see this kind of Bi partisanship.

Giuliani continued to praise Lynch, saying “As you all know, I am a Republican and I think I could probably be described as a very dedicated Republican, I find Loretta Lynch not only to be an acceptable appointment. I find her to be an extraordinary appointment.” Giuliani also warned about the dangers many Americans would be in if we continued without an Attorney General.
