Prior to Elections, Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘Before The Flood’ Available for Free

The Before the Flood documentary examines the global crisis of climate change around the Earth. The documentary debuted in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) around September. The film then premiered in select theaters on October 21st.
National Geographic, who was in charge of the film’s distribution, decided to release the film on YouTube for free viewing. The film is also embedded on video and social platforms like Hulu, Twitter, Facebook, and the National Geographic’s website.
The documentary is hosted and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film was also directed by Fisher Stevens.
The filmmaker’s timing to release their documentary around voting time is an attempt to raise the awareness of climate change before the elections are over.
After the TIFF’s premiere of Before the Flood, DiCaprio explained the documentary crew’s intentions during the Q&A portion of the event. The actor stated that we cannot afford to have leaders in office that do not believe in the modern science of climate change.
DiCaprio also commented that we all need to create a world community to put people in office who are not only believers in science but people who are going to take action immediately. The actor also stated that because the United States is the largest contributor to the issue, the filmmakers wanted to release the film before the next election. DiCaprio ended his statement saying that we need to set an example for the rest of the world to follow.
The Q&A portion of the event didn’t focus on bashing a particular presidential candidate. Although Donald Trump in the past has claimed global warming was “created by the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive”. The republican nominee once called the issue a “hoax”.
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has acknowledged climate change issues and advocated for clean energy.
