Poland says it will uphold its veto on EU migration pact.

On Friday, Poland’s Prime Minister announced that his country will maintain its veto on a migration deal proposed by the European Union. This comes when the EU tries to agree on a mechanism for distributing asylum seekers who enter Europe through unofficial border crossings.

After ministers’ meetings on Thursday failed to produce a final agreement, the EU’s top migration official stated that the union was on the verge of agreeing on how to tackle irregular immigration shortly. Berlin and Rome are concerned about increased arrivals before the elections, so they want to ensure that the EU takes appropriate action.

The Law and Justice (PiS) party, now in power in Poland and will also be contesting elections on October 15, has made curbing illegal immigration to the country one of the primary tenets of its election campaign. On the same day of the vote, it was stated that there would be a referendum on the matter.

In a televised broadcast, Mateusz Morawiecki stated, “I am going to the European Council next week where I will uphold my veto on illegal migration.” Morawiecki made this announcement.

This is not only an attempt to assault Poland’s sovereignty and the sovereignty of other member states, but it is also an attempt to destabilize the EU in a manner that is not democratic.
