Obama Nominates New Supreme Court Justice

Today President Obama announced his nomination for Supreme Court Justice: Merrick B. Garland. Garland, aged 63, is well liked by both Democrats and Republics alike, is well known in Washington. Obama had this to say about Merrick B. Garland: “I’ve selected a nominee who is widely recognized not only as one of America’s sharpest legal minds, but someone who brings to his work a spirit of decency, modesty, integrity, even-handedness, and excellence.”

This nomination comes from the hole left by previous Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away earlier this year. Prior to President Obama announcing who his nomination would be for, republicans stated that they would block any choice he made.

This story is definitely not over, and the question comes down to: will Obama’s nomination go through, or will it be tied up until the next president starts their term?
