Following days of media speculation that changes to the government were impending, Norwegian Labour Party Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere will announce a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, according to a brief statement from his office.

The declaration comes five weeks after local and regional elections in which Labour finished second to the Conservatives for the first time since 1924 in any countrywide contest.

The revisions will be revealed around 09:10 GMT, according to a prime minister’s office statement.

According to broadcasters NRK and TV2, as well as other media, the most prominent change will be the replacement of Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt with Climate and Environment Minister Espen Barth Eide, who served as Foreign Minister from 2012 to 2013.

Three ministers depart the cabinet altogether, while two take up new positions. According to sources, the cabinet will now have 20 members due to the creation of a new role for digitalization and artificial intelligence.

According to the reports, Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, the finance minister; Jan Christian Vestre, the industry minister; and Terje Aasland, the minister of energy and petroleum, were all anticipated to preserve their positions.

Before a parliamentary election scheduled for September 2025, the minority government of Labour and the Centre Party, which has been in power since 2021 when it succeeded a center-right alliance, is down in the polls.
