North Korea Desperate for Attention, Makes Big Boy Claims

Nuclear disarmament has been a point of contention ever since the capacity to make ballistic nuclear missiles has existed. The UN continually tries to edify other nations on the destruction capability of these weapons. North Korea, not one known for listening to universal policy, has voiced their intention to continue to use the Yongbyon nuclear complex to produce the resources for nuclear weapons and arm themselves for an attack on United States soil. Pyongyang claimed that they will soon follow through on their threat to eliminate US bases within the Pacific. While this may sound grave, the situation is a repeating one, with the North Korean regime continually trying to bring recognition and fear to their name.

In 2007, the facility that is currently being used was shutdown in agreement with several other nations, mostly those with direct ties to local nations. Japan, Russia, China, The United States and South Korea. Six years later, the Pyongyang regime claimed they would reopen the site, and have now followed through with that claim. North Korea cannot survive without trying to cause calamity, as it gives the nation and their leader relevance as a force to be dealt with. Kongdan “Katy” Oh, senior Asian specialist at the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria, Virginia, habitually briefs US government officials of such developments in this region of the world. She speaks to the idea that Kim Jong Un wants and needs the respect that both his father and grandfather seemingly had.

North Korea is planning for a fifth nuclear ballistic missile test, as they have claimed that their factories have been producing highly enriched uranium used in these weapons. This claim is backed up by the missile that was fired and landed in an exclusive economic zone of Japan. While North Korea may have the resources to make these weapons, the United States and surrounding nations have defenses set up, such as the Terminal High Altitude Air Defense that was stationed in South Korea. The Pyongyang regime is trying desperately to strike out at someone to make an impression, a sign of perhaps despair.
