Nigel Farage Accused as ‘Person of Interest’ in Russian Probe Investigation

Nigel Farage is a “person of interest” in the investigation of possible interference between the Trump administration and Russia during last year’s presidential campaign, the Guardian said in an article Thursday.

The newspaper, based in London, claimed that the Brexit campaigner “has not been accused of wrongdoing and is not a suspect or a target of the US investigation.” However, investigators believe he could possibly be withholding information about the acts under current investigation and therefore might “be subject to their scrutiny.”

Unnamed sources told the Guardian that Farage, the former leader of the U.K. Independence Party, “had raised the interest of FBI investigators” due to his connection with the Trump campaign as well as Julian Assange, WikiLeaks founder, who he met with in March.

The troves of Hillary Clinton’s hacked e-mails which severely damaged her presidential campaign were released by WikiLeaks, which has been suspected of cooperating with Russia.

“One of the things the intelligence investigators have been looking at is points of contact and persons involved,” a source told the Guardian. “If you triangulate Russia, WikiLeaks, Assange and Trump associates the person who comes up with the most hits is Nigel Farage.

The source believed Farage was a prevalent figure in the “middle of these relationships.”

“He’s right in the middle of these relationships,” the source said. “He turns up over and over again. There’s a lot of attention being paid to him.”

Farage shared on Twitter that it took him a long time to finish reading the Guardian’s article because he was “laughing so much at this fake news” and also referred to it as “nonsense.”

“This hysterical attempt to associate me with the Putin regime is a result of the liberal elite being unable to accept Brexit and Trump,” he tweeted this morning.

He also called the liberal elite “bad losers trying to find a way out” and believes the accusations made against him are “extremely doubtful.”

“I consider it extremely doubtful that I could be a person of interest to the FBI as I have no connections to Russia,” Farage said in a Tweet.
