Meat Producer’s Say Obama is Trying to Kill their Industry

States that produce cattle for the country are claiming that Obama is killing their business after his Administration sent out a federal report. It stated that Washington is going to start pushing Americans to go green, and stop eating so much meat.

The 571-page report was sent out after the President consulted with nutrition experts in an attempt to set up new dietary guidelines. This will get people to consider the environment when deciding what they should be putting in their bodies.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa is fighting for the cattle industry and told Fox News, “Generations of cattle farmers and ranchers have been and continue to be conscientious about conserving limited natural resources. They rely on the land and the environment for their livelihood. Those facts get lost in Washington and in arguments that eating red meat hurts the environment.”

Meanwhile, the North American Meat Institute also called the report “flawed” and “nonsensical.” It’s clear that these organizations could stand to lose a large percentage of their profit because of this report and new national guidelines. The federal report will set guidelines for government approved food programs that includes school and lunchrooms.

A Texas physician and rancher, Dr. Richard Thorpe believes that the report is over stepping boundaries, and is shocked that they are advising Americans to eat less red meat. They believe that this could kill off an entire industry.

Thorpe understands that the dietary guidelines change every five years or so, and shares concerns over the nations health status, but expresses his confusion stating, “Legumes should be a mainstay of an American diet? He then states it would take a wheelbarrow of spinach to produce the same amount of iron in a steak.

The Obama administration and health officials that were on the counsel that wrote the federal report, believe that reducing and eliminating meat will reduce American’s carbon footprint significantly and will make America a cleaner country.
