‘Loving Day’ Celebrates The Allowance of Interracial Marriage

Even to this day, several regions are still debating whether or not same-sex marriages should be legalized or not. However, this hasn’t been the only topic of disagreement when it comes to marriage.

A long time ago, even interracial marriages were frowned upon. Several states had not even legalized it and couples were in fact unable to be betrothed to one another. However, in the year 1967, the Supreme Court decided to allow interracial marriages in Virginia. After which, many states followed suit.

However, the intriguing fact remains that last amongst those states was Alabama, which legalized interracial marriages only in the year 2000. The fight for same-sex marriages could possibly be history repeating itself.

The ‘Loving Day’ is celebrated in honor of Richard and Mildred Loving, who married right after the ban as released. The couple was married in Washington, D.C., but were arrested when they arrived at their hometown in Virginia. Long ago, Richard Loving said in an Interview, “I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.”

‘Loving Day’ is indeed a good day to celebrate as it commemorates the fact that love conquers all.
