Lincoln Chafee Slams Hillary Clinton as “Unqualified”

At least one Democrat will not be supporting Hillary Clinton if she decides to run for President. Lincoln Chafee, the former Republican Senator from Rhode Island turned Independent turned Democrat, said he will not be supporting Hillary Clinton if she runs for President. Lincoln Chafee’s most recent role was as Democratic governor of Rhode Island, where he left after only one term in office.

When citing the reasons he wouldn’t support his fellow Democrat, Chafee only came up with one reason. He cited Hillary Clintons support for the invasion of Iraq back in 2002. At the time, Chafee was the only Republican Senator who voted against taking military action against Saddam Hussein.

At the time Hillary Clinton was one of many Democrats who supported the war. She claimed Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and needed to be stopped. Chafee, who also launched a presidential exploratory committee, said that he was “absolutely going to make the war in Iraq a central point in his campaign.”

Chafee has been much more direct in his attack against Clinton, whereas other Democrats like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Governor Martin O’Malley haven’t taken direct attacks against the former secretary of state. Clinton has often said that if she had “known then what she knows now” she would of never voted for the invasion of Iraq.

Chafee has long been one to go against his political party. In 2004 Chafee didn’t attend The Republican National Convention and refused to vote for then President George W Bush. That was a move that angered many Republicans.
