Before the meeting between Biden and Netanyahu, Israeli-Palestinian violence spiked. Medical professionals and locals claim that Israeli troops killed a Palestinian youth, age 19, during a raid on Wednesday in the occupied West Bank.

Violence increased during the first meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Vice President Joe Biden.

Several factors, including the rise of Netanyahu’s hard-right government, the entrenchment of Islamist terrorists, and the near decade-long impasse in US-sponsored peace efforts, have contributed to the deterioration of security in the West Bank, which includes areas where Palestinians seek statehood.

Locals claim that the Palestinian man who was killed nearby Jericho was shot. In the meantime, despite his family’s claims, troops engaged stone-throwers in combat. Six Palestinians have died in clashes with Israeli soldiers since Tuesday. His death marked the sixth.

The army asserted that the attack was carried out to capture alleged insurgents. During the operation, the army opened fire on several Palestinians, hitting one with bombs. Information on Israeli fatalities was absent.

Netanyahu’s relationship with Vice President Joe Biden has grown tense since his return to power in December last year as the head of a religious-nationalist coalition. Israel’s supporters in the United States are worried about his plans to reform the legal system and Jewish settlement in the West Bank.

A meeting between Netanyahu and Trump is planned for the United Nations General Assembly. Biden’s White House has not yet received an invitation.

Vice President Biden argued for the continuation of American efforts to improve ties between Israel and the Arab nations that border it during his speech at the summit on Tuesday. Vice President Biden added that the US government “continues to work tirelessly to support a just and lasting peace between… the Israelis and Palestinians — two states for two people.”
