Iran’s deputy attorney general said Saturday that those who encourage women to remove the headscarf will be prosecuted in criminal courts and have no appeal.

His remarks come as more women disobey Iran’s clothing regulations by going exposed in malls, restaurants, shops, streets, and other public spaces.

Several female celebrities and campaigners have released veil-free photographs on social media recently.

Iranian media said Saturday that police deployed public cameras to detect and punish exposed women. Police announced the idea last week.

“The crime of promoting unveiling will be dealt with in the criminal court whose decisions are final and unappealable,” deputy attorney general Ali Jamadi told Mehr News.

“The punishment for promoting and encouraging others to remove the hijab is much heavier than the crime of removing it itself, because it is one of the clear examples of encouraging corruption,” he said.

He did not specify consequences or unveiling promotion.

Since the morality police killed a 22-year-old Kurdish woman last September, more Iranian women are removing their veils. Mahsa Amini was arrested for hijab violations. After her death, police forcefully suppressed protests.

Social internet is full of unveiled women fighting the morality police.
