Iranian state media reported that on Friday, the anniversary of Iran’s war with Iraq in the 1980s, the country displayed its military might by parading what it called “the longest-range drone in the world” alongside ballistic and hypersonic missiles.

Drones showcased at the occasion were reportedly named Mohajer, Shahed, and Arash, and it was said that the drone “was unveiled” during the march.

Last month, the Islamic Republic announced the completion of a high-tech drone called Mohajer-10, which boasts a longer range, greater endurance, and a greater payload.

State media at the time said that the drone’s range is 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles), its flight time is 24 hours, and that its payload might reach 300 kilograms (661 pounds), double Mohajer-6’s capability.

Russia’s deployment of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) in its conflict with Ukraine has been linked by the United States to Iran, specifically the use of Mohajer-6 drones. Washington increased penalties against Iran on Tuesday, citing Tehran’s “continued, deliberate proliferation of UAVs” that provide “enablement” to Russia, its proxies in the Middle East, and other destabilizing players.

Iran insists that it is not supplying Russia with drones for use in the crisis in Ukraine.

President Ebrahim Raisi remarked at Friday’s parade in Tehran, “Our forces ensure security in the region and the Persian Gulf.” We can show the locals that resisting authority is the way of the future. Resistance, not capitulation or wavering, is what drives the enemy back.

The Mohajer-6 was shown in a film broadcast by Iranian media last month, along with other military gear, with the text “prepare your shelters” written in Persian and Hebrew. The Hebrew text was likely meant to allude to Israel, Iran’s arch-regional nemesis.

On Tuesday, the United States hit various individuals and organizations in Iran, Russia, China, and Turkey for supporting Tehran’s work on uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) and military aircraft.

The invasion of Iran by Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi forces on September 22, 1980, marked the beginning of the Iran-Iraq war. Stalemate was declared in August of 1988 after the war had wreaked havoc on the economy and claimed the lives of half a million people.
