Iran’s deputy defense minister informed Iran’s Tasnim news agency on Tuesday that Iran has finalized preparations for the delivery of fighter planes and helicopters manufactured by the Russian company Sukhoi Su-35. This comes at a time when Tehran and Moscow are working to strengthen their connections in the military.

There are just a few dozen strike aircraft in Iran’s air force, which includes Russian jets as well as older versions from the United States that were purchased before the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Mehdi Farahi, the deputy Minister of Defense of Iran, stated that the plans for the Sukhoi Su-35 fighter planes, Mil Mi-28 attack helicopters, and Yak-130 jet trainers to join the combat forces of Iran’s Army had been finalized.

The Tasnim story did not contain any confirmation from Russia that the agreement had been finalized.

In 2018, Iran announced that it had begun constructing the Kowsar fighter, created locally and intended for deployment by the Iranian Air Force. Experts in the military think that the jet is a replica of the F-5, which was manufactured in the United States for the first time in the 1960s.
