After new investigations towards his spending, Illinois Republican Rep. Aaron Schock, has decided to resign from office.

Schock’s colleagues were confused and shocked to hear about the representative’s resignation, but in a written statement Schock decided to announce that he is stepping down because of recent questions arising regarding money from campaign and taxpayer accounts.

The statement reads, “Serving the people of the 18th District is the highest and greatest honor I have had in my life. I thank them for their faith in electing me and letting me represent their interests in Washington. … But the constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself.”

Many started questioning Schock after the representative decorated his office to look like the popular television series, “Downton Abbey,” and people started to believe that he was using the money to redecorate by stealing from taxpayers. The Associated Press then confirmed that the Representative gave 750,000 dollars to a political donor for a warehouse in Peoria, and has also took out a 600,000 mortgage for the property.

Schock is denying the accusations against him, but many are skeptical based on his spending within the community and for his own personal gains. While Schock claims he resigned because the questioning is a distraction it could be that the politician is trying to get out while he can before he is kicked out against his will. One thing’s for sure it appears that Schock does have an unexplainable amount of extra funds to be letting out, and enough to continue to build up his own wealth.
