The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated on Monday in New York that it has reached an agreement with Japan over the latter’s continuous safety review of the release of treated water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Last month, Japan began discharging treated radioactive water from the Fukushima plant that is owned and operated by Tokyo Electric Power (9501.T), which sparked a diplomatic spat with China, which is Japan’s most important trading partner.

The Chinese embassy in Japan has stated on multiple occasions, the most recent of which was on Monday, that it was not invited to participate in the international framework that is monitoring the water coming from the Fukushima plant, which it refers to as “contaminated.”
