Google, Mysterious as Always, Lets Go of the Reins

Google is up to something again, but no, it’s not AI and it’s not a social media platform, thankfully. At this point, it’s not really anything. Google has been very sparse with the details about the program and what it does. There is, however, a name. It’s known as Fuchsia, and it’s currently open-source. The beginnings of Google’s new OS is currently on GitHub, the website for distributing and developing code, and the only descriptor adorning it is “Pink + Purple == Fuchsia (a new Operating System).”

Anything Google does at this point deserves at least a fraction of attention, so as to make sure they haven’t begun world domination. With Google being at the forefront of business and technology, speculation has started to burst from the internet, and there are a few interesting ideas floating around as to what this new program could be for.

A theory for those bored with our current world is that it could be for developing an operating system to work in augmented reality. While this is very speculative, it does have an interesting concept as a 3D, walk-able OS. A more plausible and practical response is that it will be used to merge chrome OS, used in their laptops and notebooks, and Android, used on cellphones, into one system.

One of the details most paramount is that the kernel for Fuchsia is not limited to laptops or cellphones, but can used on a myriad of systems. This builds towards the concept of the Internet of Things, in which an increasing amount of everyday objects are becoming part of the internet, which greatly impacts our connection to the internet.

Google, however, is keeping a tight lip as to what this could be used for, instead passing it quickly into the hands of freelance developers and coders. Perhaps Google is going to let these people decide where Fuchsia heads.
