Germany added 35% more electric car charge points in 2022, says BDEW
On Tuesday, the BDEW energy industry association reported that Germany’s electric vehicle charging sites increased by 35% last year, exceeding the rate needed to keep up with battery EV sales.
Last October, the German government authorized a three-year, 6.3 billion euro ($6.9 billion) plan to rapidly expand charging stations.
BDEW, which represents energy companies, calculated that public and private charging infrastructure exceeded by 20% the amount needed to keep up with EV growth.
The number of ultra-fast points (HPC) with over 150 Kilowatt performance, which can power a 100-kilometer (62-mile) driving range in minutes, increased by 83% to 7,037 points.
Fast charging points using direct current (DC) electricity of 22–149 kW rose 15% to 6,216 units.
The third category, 11-to-22 kW AC standard charging outlets for private and semi-public use, grew 34% to 67,288 units.
Electric car power capacity increased to 2.47 gigawatts (GW) by end-2022 from 1.74 GW a year earlier.
Last October, government data showed 1.5 million completely electric cars.
