After Donald Trump pulled the United States from the Paris climate agreement, a campaign promise he made to break away from a global effort to reduce greenhouse gases, the president of France came to the defense of not only American citizens, but also the welfare of the entire planet.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement released Thursday that he respected Trump’s decision to remove the U.S. from the historic deal but referred to the move as “an actual mistake.” He also encouraged American scientists and citizens who want to protect the planet to work directly with France and European researchers on the fight against global climate change.

“To all scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, responsible citizens who were disappointed by the decision of the president of the United States, I want to say that they will find in France a second homeland,” Macron said in in the video statement. “I call on them, come and work here with us to work together on concrete solutions for our planet, our environment. I can assure you France will not give up the fight.”

Macron believes that “a dangerous world” is ahead for future generations if people don’t come together to combat this major problem.

“Climate change is one of the major issues of our time,” he said. “It is already changing our daily lives, but it is global. Everyone is impacted and if we do nothing, our children will know a world of migrations, of wars, of shortages; a dangerous world.”

During his presidential campaign in February, Macron invited climate scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. to join French efforts in the aid of our planet amid Trump’s skepticism and harsh remarks against climate change.

“Please, come to France. You are welcome, it’s your nation,” Macron said in a video earlier this year. “We want innovative people. We want people working on climate change, energy, renewables and new technologies.”

Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris accord makes the U.S., Syria and Nicaragua the only three countries in the world not participating in the universal effort to reduce global warming.

Macron’s statement ended with a new rendition of Trump’s “Make America great again” slogan, which suited the Paris agreement’s primary goal.

“Make our planet great again,” he said. “Thank you.”
