Fiorina’s 2016 hurdle is her experience at Hewlett Packard

Only one Republican has formally announced an exploratory commitee for the 2016 Presidential Election . That woman is former McCain campaign advisor and Hewett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina . Fiorina last ran for office in 2010 when she lost to Democratic inclumbent Senator Barbara Boxer by a margin of 52% to 42%. Despite losing by 10 points , Fiorina kept the election close into the final days and the election result was considered a suprise.
One of the main issues Fiorina touted was her time as CEO of electronics company Hewett Packard. Ironically the issue that her opponent Barbara Boxer attacked her for most was also her time as CEO of Hewett Packard. The former HP chief executive and potential 2016 Republican contender is portraying herself as a Silicon Valley titan and tech whiz . Fiorina says that her time as chief of Hewett Packard gives her the necessary experience to be chief executive officer of The United States.
Fiorina is touting the fact that she ” quintupled the size of the company” however like her former opponents her potential future ones are likely to point out the fact that while Fiorina was CEO of Hewlett Packard the company laid of 30,000 employees and outsourced thousands of more jobs to China . Now, Fiorina’s interest with a presidential campaign is reopening those attacks and discrediting what she believes is her top asset.
Further hurting Fiorina’s chances is Jason Burnett, the grandson of the late HP co-founder David Packard and a member of the board of trustees at the Packard Foundation. Burnett said in a statement flatly that Fiorina ” shouldn’t work in any level of government.” Burnett actually said that he was ” hurt” at how Fiorina ran HP and said it was in direct contrast to how his grandfather ran the company.
A “I said when Carly was mentioned as a possible running mate with John McCain, he’s a war hero and former POW. I think he’s suffered enough already,” former employee at HP wrote , the employee choose to remain anonymous .
Fiorina brushes off these criticism any touts the fact that she got the HP merger with Compaq , saying it was extremely beneficial for both companies. Fiorina also boasts doubling HP’s revenues . Fiorina ‘s potential run is being compared to Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful 2012 run . In 2012 Romney touted his record as Chairman of Bane Capital which Democrats pounced on for many of the same reasons they are pouncing on Fiorina now. Only time will tell if Hewlett Packard helps our hurts Fiorina’s 2016 run.
