In a letter that will be sent to their counterparts in the United States on Tuesday, more than a hundred top European politicians will call for Congress to provide further military assistance to Ukraine. This comes when lawmakers in the United States have been struggling to reach a consensus on a solution.

Legislators from at least seventeen different countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Ireland, signed the open letter, which Reuters examined. This indicates growing worries in Europe over the continuation of assistance from the United States to Ukraine.

It also comes at the same time as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of Ukraine is flying to Washington to make his case. This is before a stringent deadline for Congress, which is due to go into break for the year by Friday.

“We hear the concerns that our American friends have voiced. Leaders in the United States, both Democrats and Republicans, have been urging Europeans to assume a greater level of responsibility for their safety for several years. The MPs stated in the letter that they concur with this reasonable request under the leadership of Benjamin Haddad, a French member of parliament and a member of President Emmanuel Macron’s party.

The European legislators, who include Michael Roth of Germany, who is the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, and Giulio Tremonti, who is his equivalent in Italy, stated that Europeans have contributed as much as the United States has to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.

“Moreover, military spending has risen all across Europe,” according to them. “American military aid however is critical and urgent.”

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson and other Republicans have requested a delay in the delivery of the next batch of aid to Ukraine. They have demanded that no further money be delivered to Ukraine until measures have been taken to strengthen the border between the United States and Mexico.

In response to President Joe Biden’s call for Congress to take action before the end of the year, Democrats in Congress were attempting to get approval for around fifty billion dollars in additional security aid for Ukraine.

A win for Putin would give our adversaries worldwide more confidence; they are keeping a close eye on us and hope we get exhausted. Members of the European Parliament stated that the Ukrainians are fighting so that we do not have to.

During the summit that will take place in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, the leaders of the European Union will decide on plans to provide economic assistance to Kyiv for fifty billion euros, allocate an additional twenty billion euros to Ukraine’s military, and initiate membership negotiations.

However, to do this, they would have to persuade the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, who boasts about his connections with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and has vowed to block the aid and enlargement consultations.
