On Wednesday, Britain’s cyber chief claimed China is seeking “global technological supremacy” in cyberspace and conducting intelligence and surveillance efforts.

GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) director Lindy Cameron said Britain has a “legitimate concern” about Chinese technology’s impact on cybersecurity.

“China is not only pushing for parity with Western countries, it is aiming for global technological supremacy,” Cameron told an annual government cybersecurity conference in Belfast.

Boldly, we must stay up with China. Otherwise, China may dominate cyberspace.”

Cameron noted that China uses cyber capabilities to steal intellectual property, achieve geopolitical goals, and spy on the world.

Britain banned TikTok on government phones this month because to security concerns, joining other Western nations.

Due to concerns that Beijing-based ByteDance could give user data from TikTok to the Chinese government, Western security interests have come under examination.

The app is banned from government devices in the US, Canada, Belgium, and the EU.

China calls the prohibitions political. Beijing typically denies hacking and says it punishes hackers.
