British Prime Minister Says ‘Enough is Enough’ After London Attack

Theresa May said that “enough is enough” after yet another terror attack on England soil. As the British Prime Minister spoke on Downing Street Sunday morning, she discussed the “new trend” in terrorism the country is facing, after experiencing three fatal attacks within the short span of three months.

The latest attack occurred less than two weeks after the suicide bombing in Manchester killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert.

Leaving seven dead and at least 48 wounded, the assailants began their attack on the London Bridge at 10 p.m. Saturday, driving a van on the sidewalk in an attempt to injure whoever was in their way. The incident concluded at the nearby Borough Market, where they then fled their vehicle. Armed with long knives, the suspects charged into the crowds before being shot dead by police.

“Everybody needs to go about their lives as they normally would,” May said. “Our society should continue to function in accordance with our values. But when it comes to taking on extremism and terrorism, things need to change.”

During her speech, she revealed that the U.K.’s security intelligence agencies and police have disrupted five terrorist attacks since the Westminster attack in March.

“The recent attacks are not connected,” she said. “But we believe we are experiencing a new trend in the threat we face, as terrorism breeds terrorism.”

May claimed the government will be intensifying its counterterrorism efforts to deal with Islamist radicalism. She believes there needs to be an international agreement to “regulate cyberspace” in order to restrict terrorists from having “the safe spaces” for their extreme ideologies to “breed.”

In coming together, May suggests the country needs to “take on this extremism” and live “as one truly United Kingdom.”

“As a country, we must come together,” May said as she concluded her speech. “We must pull together, and united we will take on and defeat our enemies.”
