Ballistic Missiles Ready for Mass Production, According to North Korea

As of recently, North Korea has run a series of tests on their so called “ballistic missiles” in which their goals have become close to attainable.  First running launches to see how far the missiles would fly, to how accurate these missiles landed, their aspirations for such weapons can be seen by all.  On Monday, North Korea said that its intermediate-range ballistic missile was successfully tested, meeting all technical requirements before mass production.

The United States, condemning the North Korean tests, said that the launch of Sunday was deemed a “medium-range” missile—they doubt the reliability of the solid-fuel type after such little testing with the missiles.  U.S. officials also add that, “the test did not demonstrate a new capability, or one that could threaten the United States directly.  But the test was North Korea’s second in a week and South Korea’s new liberal government said it dashed its hopes for peace.”  It is clear that the United States does not consider North Korea a considerable threat, and is ready to take action in the case that threat is imminent.

Having noted from previous tests, North Korea said that its ballistic missile system was capable of carrying a “large-size heavy nuclear warhead”, putting the United States within “sighting range”.  As a result, President Trump responded by saying that a “major, major conflict” is possible between the two countries, showing a strong fist while refusing to back down from such threatening rhetoric—although military action is considered, sanctions are much more preferred.

Washington’s Asian diplomat Daniel Russel noted that North Korea’s intentions appeared to be to force the United States and other superpowers to recognize North Korea as a nuclear superpower.  He says, “The intended message to the United States is that your pressure campaign won’t work and we’ll see your sanctions and raise you yet another advance in our ballistic missile program.”

Regardless of true intentions, North Korea’s actions have caused the world to be on edge.  U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that North Korea’s efforts have been “disappointing, disturbing,” and that no such efforts will elicit the desired response.  Nevertheless, the United States and the rest of the world must be ready to combat a real threat if such an incident is to occur.
