Saturday’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan will resume discussions in Washington on Sunday to normalize relations.

In 2020, Russian peacekeepers ended the second conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory. Tensions have been growing again between the two countries over the enclave.

Armenians dominate the mountainous region, which is internationally recognized as Azerbaijan.

“Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan will work in Washington DC from April 30. On her official Facebook page, spokesman Ani Badalyan announced the next round of discussions on the agreement on normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan never confirmed the meeting.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have failed to establish a peace agreement on boundary demarcation and prisoner exchange after years of mediation.

Azerbaijan opened a new checkpoint on the Lachin corridor near Karabakh last Sunday, which Armenia labeled a blatant violation of a 2020 ceasefire.
