A 40 Year-Old Ban on Cameras Will be Lifted by the White House

The White House has always been an iconic and exciting tourist spot to visit. But since the structure is of great national importance, the safety concerns and rules are a bit more stringent than most other tourist spots.

For instance, the White House authorities have banned the use of cameras within the house itself for about four decades now. But apparently with the extensive use of cell phone cameras and controlled security screens and checks, the White House has now lifted the ban after forty years to allow tourists to click photographs.

Photographs of the interior of the house were soon uploaded with the tags ‘#WhiteHouseTour’. However, an amendment to the lifting of the ban stated that only phone cameras and compact cameras with lenses no longer than 3 inches are allowed.

Michelle Obama announced this news via Instagram by saying,

“If you’ve been on a White House tour, you may have seen this sign.”

She held up a placard in the video clip that read, “No Photos or Social Media allowed.”

Michelle Obama then proceeded to tear up the sign, laughed and said,

“Well, not anymore.”

Tourists from now on will not only be able to enjoy their tour of the White House, but also preserve the memories of the day for years to come.
