On Monday, the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense reported a significant increase in Chinese military actions near the island. It warned that this behavior could lead to a significant escalation of hostilities.

China, which claims Taiwan as its territory despite the island’s democratic rule, has conducted frequent military maneuvers around Taiwan in recent years to exert pressure on the democratically elected government in Taipei.
The Ministry of Defense reported on Tuesday that a “recent high” of 103 Chinese military aircraft had been sighted in international airspace since Sunday.

Its map of Chinese activity over the previous 24 hours revealed that Chinese fighter jets had flown across the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which had previously served as an unofficial boundary between the two sides but has now become routinely crossed by China.

To reach the Philippines from the south, other planes had to cross the Bashi Channel.

According to a statement released by the government, China’s actions over the past day have posed “serious challenges” to strait and regional security.

It went on to say that everyone in the region is responsible for maintaining calm and safety in the Taiwan Strait.

The Communist military’s “continuous military harassment” threatens regional stability. We demand that the government in Beijing accept accountability and put an end to these dangerous unilateral acts.

China’s Ministry of Defense did not immediately react when asked for comment.

A regional security official told Reuters that in addition to the weekend air force incursion near Taiwan, China also sent over 100 naval ships for maneuvers in the region, notably in the vital waters of the South China Sea and off Taiwan’s northeastern coast.

The person, who asked not to be identified due to the situation’s sensitivity, claimed that the naval exercises were the “largest in years” in magnitude and were putting stress on everyone in the region.

According to Taiwan’s defense ministry, Chinese military maneuvers near the coast are at their peak between July and September.

According to a report released by Taiwan’s defense ministry this month, China is increasing its air strength in response to Taiwan by permanently stationing new fighters and drones at expanding air facilities.
